The conference activities will be hosted in HET PAND and in DE AULA ACADEMICA of Ghent University. Both are located in the city center and are within walking distance from all conference hotels.

HET PAND, the culture and congress center of Ghent University, is a former Dominican monastery. It is located in the heart of the city on the banks of the river Leie. Built in 1201, the building first served as a hospital before it became the settlement of the Dominicans. Het Pand has been extended and restyled during five centuries. For example, the cloisters, in which you can wander during the Conference, date back to the 15th and 16th century. Its restoration was completed in 1991.

Ever since its inauguration in 1826, DE AULA ACADEMICA has been the crown jewel of Ghent University. This neoclassical temple of wisdom, characterized by eigth Corinthian columns, is also reflected in the university’s logo.

Ghent University uses DE AULA for its official ceremonies such as proclamations during which degrees and honorary doctorates are presented and the opening of the academic year. The most spectacular opening was in 1930 when Ghent University opened as the first Dutch-speaking university in Belgium after a fight of more than 40 years for the recognition of the Dutch language.
